Scarborough business cash-booster: Meet the three winners
THE winners of Scarborough’s Local Business Accelerators scheme have been announced.
After a three-month campaign Online Curtain Fabrics, Stepney Hill Farm Gourmet Meat Company, and East Coast Builders have been declared the winners.
The local businesses will now benefit from thousands of pounds worth of free advertising and business mentoring as a result of the scheme, which forms part of a national initiative.
A total of 16 firms from in and around Scarborough applied, from which a shortlist of ten was created before the winning three were announced.
Craig Patton, managing director of Online Curtain Fabrics, was delighted with the news. His curtain company has just moved to 2,000sq ft of office space in Hopper Hill Road. He said: “It is brilliant to be one of the winners. It will mean a lot for the business, and the advertising will be a great boost.
“You can advertise online but nothing beats being in print for local trade.”
East Coast Builders, based in Bridlington, specialise in heat recovery ventilation systems combating damp, mould and condensation.
Director Lenny Hunnygen said: “I am blown away by this. Winning will help with my ambitions to expand and I am looking forward to the mentoring to help advance my business plans.”
The win for Stepney Hill Gourmet Meat Company comes on the back of the business opening its first restaurant and butchers shop in Huntriss Row.
Director Ashley Tyson said: “It is fantastic news, and hopefully will accelerate us going forward. Banks aren’t supporting small businesses at the moment so it’s good someone is.”
The competition was judged locally by Simon Bull, who has spent 20 years building Castle Group in the health, safety and environmental sector, Jo Thompson, managing director of Spectrum Cleaning Solutions, and Ed Asquith, editorial director of Yorkshire Regional Newspapers.
